As well as taking part in a collective work (which I am finding the process really exciting), I am planning a sculpture / installation piece to exhibit in my studio. Here is the proposal at the moment, what do you think?
The proposed project comprises of a new sculptural piece
and the exhibition of the final work. It is intended that the work will comment
on the isolation and personal perception of those in mental distress and
question the collective unconscious link between sufferers and the wider
society.
Working from a point of personal experience Victoria will
create a ‘cell like’ sculpture from reclaimed materials approximately 4m x 4m x
2m containing ‘The Individual’ and attempting to refuse entry to the Collective
Unconscious that ultimately has the potential to affect feelings of isolation
and personal perception. ‘The Individual’ can be described as ephemera,
therapeutic artefacts and sound. The ‘Collective Unconscious’ may be depicted
my text, image and or sound. ‘Collective Unconscious’ can be described as the belief,
thoughts, perceptions and judgements of a particular subject e.g. illness or
social issue by a group of people that can affect the individual; similar to
the theory that the mental thought process is able to alter or manipulate molecules
as in Quantum Physics or the power of prayer.
The piece will grow organically informed by current
issues within mental health care, initiatives to reduce stigma as well as
current mainstream and new theory or protocol in mental health treatment and
recovery.
