Here are a few quotes out of the 'I Like Your Work: Art and Etiquette' pamphlet so you can all see the humorous and, at times, profound observations that are made by these artists, critics and curators. It will be interesting to gauge our own individual and perhaps humorous take on the etiquette which occurs within our collaborative act, particularly that of which occurs on Tuesdays.
What
are the rules of etiquette for the art world?
As
international as it is, it depends on the city. In Berlin, the rule
is don't be a jerk; in New York, you're supposed to be a jerk, but
politely.

What
are the rules of etiquette for the art world?
That
the art world should have a separate code of behaviour from civilised
society serves to indicate its self-impressed and savage nature.

When
does breach of etiquette play a role in embarrassing and awkward
encounters?
I
have a friend who, every time I see him socially, cannot coordinate
his “kiss” greeting with mine. Sometimes it's two air kisses,
sometimes one air kiss, sometimes one real kiss on the cheek,
sometimes with handshake and/or pat on the back. It's very confusing
and we can never manage to both utilize the same technique.

How
should people behave? What would be a maxim for appropriate conduct?
People
should behave as if this moment of the art world is not the only one
that matters. Personally, I think back to high school... I think
about how I wish I acted then (less insecure, more self-respect, kind
to everyone, but being able to stand up to the mean girls,) and then
I apply that to how I act now.

What
customs and mannerisms are particular to the art world?
drink,
drink, drink too much.

Elena González
Has
there been a shift in etiquette as the financial climate has changed?
It's
increasingly hard to disguise the wolf at the door.
What
constitutes bad manners?
I
no longer know what constitutes good manners these days.

Was
etiquette foregrounded in any memorable situation?
If
by etiquette, you mean nervous energy: yes. My awkwardness and
insecurity blended with the other person's insecurity and
awkwardness.
